Data Extraction, Formatting and Transformation
This information is preliminary, more detailed information available after DEFT release.
The DEFT Engine is a product that allows you to extract, transform and format data for your enterprise. Some call this technology Any2XML, but the DEFT Engine is not only "read plain text, output XML" as many others, it is in fact an Any2Any engine.
The DEFT Engine can handle any type of data, whether binary or plain text. This is where it differs from many other extraction software. Also the DEFT Engine can output the data in any format needed, whether it's XML, PDF, CSV, Excel or any other format you need. More input and output formats can be added when needed, this means that the DEFT Engine is highly extensible.
The DEFT Engine uses XTAL (read: chrystal) as a basis for the transformation. XTAL stands for Extensible Transformation and Aggregation Language. The language specifies the operations needed for reading, extracting, transforming, aggregating and translating data.
The DEFT Engine is available in two forms: as a .NET component, which can be used from any application or development environment that can utilize .NET, and also as a server component that can be used via a web service interface. The server can be used from any software that is able to make web service requests, independent of their source language and environment.
